Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (transl. I found treasure called love) is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language romantic film written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya. Produced by Rajshri Productions, it stars Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor. It is the fourth collaboration between Khan and Barjatya, who have previously worked on Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), and Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999). The film is loosely based on the novel The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope.
Plot summary
The film follows the story of Prem Dilwale (Salman Khan), a cheerful and kind-hearted stage actor who falls in love with Princess Maithili (Sonam Kapoor), the fiancée of Prince Yuvraj Vijay Singh (also Salman Khan), the crown prince of Pritampur. Vijay is a stern and arrogant ruler who has many enemies, including his half-brother Yuvraj Ajay Singh (Neil Nitin Mukesh) who wants to usurp the throne. When Vijay gets injured in an assassination attempt four days before his coronation, his loyal Diwan (Anupam Kher) asks Prem to impersonate him until he recovers. Prem agrees and enters the palace as Vijay, where he tries to win over Maithili, Vijay's sisters Chandrika (Swara Bhasker) and Radhika (Aashika Bhatia), and his loyal bodyguard Sanjay (Deepraj Rana). However, he also faces many challenges from Ajay, his accomplice Chirag Singh (Armaan Kohli), and Vijay's jealous girlfriend Nisha (Karuna Pandey).
